Headphones are really important when recording sound as you want as faithful a reproduction of the sound being recorded as possible. I did a lot of research on the topic a while ago for a previous recording project and came to the conclusion that I wanted to purchase a pair of Sony MDR7506 headphones:
They are highly praised all over the internet. They have been used for years and years in studios all around the world. They are also the top choice for professional sound recordists and radio engineers the world over. They are also relatively inexpensive for the quality. You can quite easily spend upwards of £200-£300 for a pair of studio headphones whereas these ones come in at under £80 new which is amazing.
The sound quality and cleanliness is amazing also. With headphones when recording anything you want them to present as accurate a version of the sound being captured as possible. These headphones fulfil that quota perfectly as they have a very flat frequency response and don't add any unwanted frequencies.
As the above chart shows, the frequency response for the Sony headphones is really flat especially in comparison to the Corsair Vengeance headphones that really colour the sound a lot.
So with these headphones, the other audio equipment and my sound list I am ready to get recording.
