This video is fantastic. It discusses everything I talked about in my previous post (only far more eloquently). It is by the YouTube channel Every Frame a Painting. He makes amazing content analysing films for certain common elements deconstructing them and explaining what makes them work and why.
In this video he discusses displaying text messages on screen and which styles work for which reason. It is a great watch and something I will pull from when creating the text message effects in the film myself.
