I recorded the main song for the montage scene the other day and layered it over the scene in audition and something felt odd. It didn't start in the way I envisioned. There wasn't any build up it just sort of appeared. To remedy the situation I went back to my guitar and used the reverse effect on my Ditto Looper:
It can be seen on the toggle switch to the right of the "Loop Level" knob. It is a toggle-able effect that can be used to literally reverse anything that has been recorded. I just played the starting root chord from the original recording and let it ring out and decay with a subtle warble from the whammy bar on my guitar.
Once it had fully decayed to silence I stopped the recording and played it back with the reverse effect engaged which played out a slowly appearing chord. It sounded awesome and was a really interesting way of doing this. I then took that sound file and added it to the start of the song with a fade to blend the two together:
The highlighted sound clip is the reversed chord being played. As you can see I have pushed it into the song and the two yellow curved lines display the fade between the two clips. The fade is really natural sounding and really helps blend the two clips together seemingly into one file.
