Film Double Exposure

Double exposure is an awesome technique that involves exposing the same bit of film twice to different images to create surreal cutout isolated, combined images. It is a really crazy technique that first brought to my attention by the True Detective title sequence:


This title sequence is absolutely beautiful and as I mentioned was the first time I actually saw this effect. The effect has been around for years though and was first possible by exposing film twice. here are some other examples:




As you can see it is an absolutely stunning technique and something I definitely want to utilise in my poster design. Not only is it beautiful it also ties all the themes I want to tie together in one idea. It is a technique made possible by film cameras. But perhaps more importantly it shares a lot of artistic qualities with ink on paper art. The bleeding of edges and fading intensities in the black to white contrast evokes the same feelings as the ink artwork.
