The backgrounds I received from Jess and Jake were awesome. They had loads of detail and everything was separated onto separate layers to I could manipulate each component to add life. One thing I did to all of them was adjust them to suit a filmic look. This is most clear with Jake's original space background as an example. This is the original file:
As you can see it looks incredible. There is so much detail, colour and vibrance in there. However, I wanted to simplify it a little so as to let Jess's astronaut have a little breathing room and not make everything feel too tight. I also needed to make the image work when rotated 90 degrees to fit a 16:9 video aspect ratio and I wanted to accentuate some of the colours. So with that in mind I removed and repositioned some element, then added a curves adjustment to each element and created this:
Luckily the file was so good in the first place it was only a minimal amount of work on my end but I love how it all came together. This is that new background with the space man infant of it:
I think that there is just a bit more impact and life to the colours and the less detailed, simpler background just lends itself a little better to video. Luckily as I mentioned the file was so intricate and detailed it was an easy fix.
