Coming up with a theme for this project was probably the most important thing to do. Luckily we came up with a concept almost immediately. It started off almost jokingly with me thinking of us, the students, as stars. That then developed to a student working in space on the moon, surrounded by stars. Then it turned into that scene being inside of a jar on a shelf because it allowed for reveals and an interesting video idea.
Both Jess' and Jake's drawing styles are very intricate, detailed and hand done. They don't look digital really to me which is interesting because my visual/drawing style is very clean and digital. This meant that it was two styles coming together. However, their drawing styles are really prominent and engaging so I wanted to let them breathe and take centre stage. For that reason I decided that the video should be simple with limited movement and just allowing their drawn images to shine.
The idea of a scene in a jar makes for an interesting idea coupled with room for growth. The posters can be simple or complex and the video, I can already see in my head, can have layers and be engaging.
So together we have come up with a space scene in a jar on a shelf surrounded by a bunch of other worlds in jars. I think it is going to be something that makes for a really cool, cohesive brand.
