This is something that inspired the way I direct and compose my shots anyway but I thought it important to include here as it is particularly relevant to what I want to shoot next. I am massively inspired by Edgar Wright. One of my favourite films is Shaun of the Dead.
It is hilarious of course, superbly acted and written but something that can be overlooked is the direction and camera work. It is absolutely incredible and in all of his films the camera becomes it's own character in a lot of ways. He is a master at visual comedy and impact as this video shows:
I feel like this shows the genius of Edgar Wright and is something I will pull from massively. I love the way he frames the shots symmetrically and artistically yet always throws something new and interesting in the mix. It suits my style greatly. I frame everything in a clean and simple way that works well and looks good. I just need to work on the engaging scene transitions and other such elements.
I am going to use his style of direction whole heartedly for my new idea and hopefully I can do it justice.
P.S. Another important aspect is that Edgar Wright is a British director. A lot of his earlier films have been huge cult successes in England and so his style of direction and aura are inherently synonymous with British filmmaking. Successfully accomplishing this style myself will add an unavoidable British flair to the piece which will be subtle, and only those in the know will be able to pinpoint, but I feel as though everyone in England will pick up on it in some capacity. This is yet another layer to add into the ident which I feel wasn't quite fully realised in the first one I shot.
